The Midlands are dominated by the Mountains of Waste and the many cities by the coast, but not every human lives in 'modern' society. Scientists and travellers alike have documented the existence of wild humans of varying technological degrees, from the Scrappers of the Mountains of Waste to the primitive hunter-gatherers of the Central Plains.
It was the middle of summer, and we were riding the Bug around the outside of the Woodlands, and something hits the side of the Bug, and goes straight through the inside of the door. At first I think we've come up against an Axebeak, but I look outside and it's a bunch of semi-naked people on horseback, throwing spears at us. Another one comes through the metal, and I make a decision to leave, quickly. Quite clever, I thought.

Created as the descendants of those who fled the cities after the fall, these people have carved out a living in their new environment, and have retained various levels of technology; for example, the scrappers of the Mountains of Waste use the matierals they find to create shanty towns, still using Uriles as currency, powering the machines they can cobble together with uranium and almost coming close to society, while still remaining small and nomadic enough to be wild.
At the other end of the spectrum, the Wild Peoples of the Central Plains live by horseback, preying on the same sort of herd animals that Axebeaks follow, such as the Common Dragon or the Jaegerfruend, hunting with spears and standing around fires at night. These peoples may be especially dangerous, as they will either act with stunned amazement at humans, or will see an attack and respond with force-many complacent travellers have lost their lives in this manner.
If you ever come across tribals, take the following steps;
1. Are they civilized, or speak your language? If so, begin conversation. Display any arms clearly and act calmly. If not, see 2.
2. Are they armed? If so, either leave immediately or dispatch the threat if the most direct method possible. If you are not comfortable with this, fire warning rounds to scare them off. If not, see 3.
3. Are they agressive? If so, run. If they appear stunned or in awe, take the oppurtunity to leave. If not, see 4.
4. If you are safe amongst the tribals and you want a particular aim, achieve the aim and leave as quickly as possible.
This guide should keep you safe in the midst of tribals, although if it fails we cannot be held responsible legally.
