Common Name: Virus Wasps
Average Height: 1', about 3 feet long
Average Weight: 80lbs
Usual Pelt Colour: Largely black
General Appearance: This is like a horrific cross between a wasp and a massive fly; it has the traditional legs and head of a wasp, with cutting jaws, but two massive bulging green compound eyes. Its wings are roughly oval, intersected with veins. The abdomen is more fly-shaped, with a stinger at the end of blobbed mass of flesh.
Habits: This wasp's method of reproduction is utterly horrid. Instead of living in hives, these wasps use their stingers to simultaneously inject their victims with an aneasthetic, and their eggs, usually into muscle and fat deposits. The wasp then falls to the ground, and shifts all of its biomass into it's abdomen, forming a fleshy mass that released pheremones-this will cause the eggs to hatch differently, and ward off scavengers. Some will become drones, others will become soldiers, and one will become a queen. Within hours, the eggs hatch, and start eating their way towards the surface, avoiding organs. The warmth from the host will keep the queen safe, as she grows inside, often making the now-hole-filled host look pregnant.
Once the queen surfaces, the drones immediately all take peices from the host and feed them to the queen, even until they die of starvation. The queen will eventually take flight, fully grown, and if the host is unlucky they will survive the process, to live with hideous scars, and constant pain without extreme medical treatment. The queen will then travel, protected by the soldiers, until the flotilla of insects finds a new host and infects them in a similar process. The soldiers will guard their original queen, the blob, until the new pheremones kill them.
Diet: Basically, anything that breathes.
Predators: Humans, Insectivores when alone.
Niche: Forests, Scrub
By Products: Pheremone pharmecueticals, Meat for the sadistic.
